Dr John P. O'Connell
Consultant Paediatrician
Dr O’Connell graduated from the University of London, Middlesex Hospital Medical School and then furthered his knowledge in child health and Anaesthesia at the Royal College of Surgeons after which he become a Member Royal College of Physicians, UK
Following many years of postgraduate training and continued professional education, Dr John P. O’Connell was awarded his Certificate of Specialist Training in Paediatrics and has been practising as a consultant paediatrician ever since.

Dr O’Connell is a highly respected consultant paediatrician specialising in paediatric neurodisability, respiratory medicine, rheumatology, and rehabilitation medicine. He also practises as an acute general paediatrician, with a particular clinical interest in osteopenia in children with neurodisability.
​
He currently serves as Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Unit at The Children’s Trust in Surrey, the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury, where he plays a senior leadership role in the care and management of children with complex neurological needs.

Dr O’Connell’s career includes many years of international medical practice, having worked extensively in Zaire (Democratic Republic of Congo), Saudi Arabia, Vanuatu, and Fiji. This global experience has significantly broadened his clinical expertise and contributed to his ability to communicate in multiple languages, allowing him to care for families from diverse cultural and international backgrounds with sensitivity and insight.

John O’Connell and Michael Markiewicz at the Cromwell Hospital are the favourite paediatricians. They motorbike to house calls — sort of Super-Docs-in-Leather — and Markiewicz is also based at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital Paediatric A&E.
